Just Keep Winning: PENN STATE 2012 NCAA Wrestling Champions!!
PSU sent 5 wrestlers to the finals and left St. Louis with 3 individual National Championship titles AND the team National Championship.
PSU clinched the title before the first bout with Dylan Alton's 3rd place finish in the consolation rounds, but that didn't quell the excitement as the Lions took center stage in the final session.
Nico Megaludis (F-125), seeded 10th in the tournament, was narrowly defeated (1-4) by #1 seed, Matt McDonough of Iowa.
Undefeated Frank (the Tank) Molinaro (Sr - 149) captured his first National Champion title by edging past Dylan Ness (minne) with the same 4-1 score.
David Taylor (So-165), all B1G everything wrestler for 2012, continued his tournament dominance with a 22-7 technical fall victory over Brandon Hatchett of Lehigh, finishing his sophomore year undefeated and with still only 1 loss in his college career.
Also undefeated in 2011-12, Ed Ruth (So-174) won PSU's 3rd individual title of the night with a 13-2 major decision over the #3 seeded Nick Amuchastegui of Stanford.
Defending NCAA Champion, Quention Wright (J-184) was matched against Cornell wrestler, and fellow Centre Countian, Steve Bosak; the match was deadlocked 2-2 until an overtime scramble resulted in a Bosak takedown.
Penn State finished the Tournament with 143.5 points and a 26 point margin of victory.
David Taylor continued his year of "all everything" capturing the awards for 2012 NCAA Most Dominant Wrestler of the Season and 2012 Championships Most Outstanding Wrestler. He also won the Gorriaran Award for the most pins in the least amount of time.
