Middle Tennessee (8-4) Blue Raiders vs
Navy (8-4) Midshipmen
Fort Worth, TX
11:45am
ESPN
Even if this weren’t the Armed Forces Bowl, there’d be no question in which way I’d lean - Ken Niumatalolo is one of my favorite football personalities. So it's Navy all the way.
Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl
Ole Miss (7-5) Rebels vs
Georgia Tech (7-5) Yellow Jackets
Nashville, TN
3:15pm
ESPN
Mortgage and Music just don't go together for me. Ah branding. Going for the yellow jackets this year. Not exactly sure why… maybe ACC over SEC? Who knows?
Valero Alamo Bowl
Oregon (10-2) Ducks vs Texas (8-4) Longhorns
San Antonio, TX
6:45pm
ESPN
Quite a bit of turmoil in and around the Texas program this winter; it will be interesting to see how it all works out for the Longhorns; college football will miss Mack Brown (until he comes back, that is). Oregon had a little bit of a post-Kelly hangover this year, but is still stocked full with talent. The Ducks definitely have a talent for making other teams' uniforms more palatable, and when the other team is wearing burnt orange, that is an extra special gift. But not enough to sway my bias… going with the Horns for this one.
Arizona State (10-3) Sundevils vs
Texas Tech (7-5) Red Raiders
San Diego, CA
10:15pm
ESPN
I know that the Sundevils have had a good season (and I was even pulling for them in a few games) and that the stadium will (doubtlessly) be packed with Coach Graham’s family, but I have to go with Texas Tech for this one. As if there was any question…
Arizona (7-5) Wildcats vs
Boston College (7-5) Eagles
Shreveport, LA
12:30pm
ESPN
This one is painful. These are two coaches that I generally dislike. As as a casual Temple fan, I never really took to Steve Addazio as a coach, and thought he left in a rather (albeit not surprising) smarmy manner. Coach Rodriguez? well... For some reason I’m finding the Wildcats less yucky.
Hyundai Sun Bowl
Virginia Tech (8-4) Hokies vs
UCLA (9-3) Bruins
El Paso, TX
2:00pm
CBS
Haven't had the strong west coast bias that I had a few years ago, but whatever, I'm sticking with the east for this one. Hokies for the win.
AutoZone Liberty Bowl
Rice (10-3) Owls vs
Mississippi State (6-6) Bulldogs
Memphis, TN
4:00pm
ESPN
Blue owls are all the rage this year (did you know?) - and the emergence of the Rice Owls this season is right on trend. While I'm an admirer of the MSU cowbell (cowbells in general, that is), my pick is Rice.
Duke (10-3) Blue Devils vs
Texas A&M (8-4) Aggies
Atlanta, GA
8:00pm
ESPN
A 10 win Rice team in a bowl game is unusual, but to be followed by a 10 win Duke team is downright improbable (where is John Urschel??). Not typically a Duke (or SEC) fan, but I'll be pulling for the Blue Devils to outsmart Johnny Football in this game.

Nebraska (8-4) Cornhuskers vs
Georgia (8-4) Bulldogs
Jacksonville, FL
12:00pm
ESPN2
Pelini seems to wiggle his way out of bad situations, whether it’s an overtime game or the proverbial hot seat. Normally I would side with the B1G team (somewhat normally), but I’m going with Georgia this year.
Heart of Dallas Bowl
UNLV (7-5) Rebels vs
North Texas (8-4) Mean Green
Dallas, TX
12:00pm
ESPNU
Formerly known as "The Normal Boys", North Texas' Mean Green is one of my favorite mascot names, even if *Scrappy* (the owl) isn't as menacing as you might imagine. So Gooooooooooooo… Mean Green!!
Capital One Bowl
Wisconsin (9-3) Badgers vs
South Carolina (10-2) Gamecocks
Orlando, FL
1:00pm
ABC
Old Ball Coach - It’s sometimes comforting to think back to the days of “smell my fingers” and sincere disdain for Steveirino. It, like many things, has mellowed over the years, but it’s still there, lingering... and besides, he and his team are up against a B1G team (also one of PSU’s wins) so I see the Badgers winning; and winning big. (apology in advance for any jinx)
Outback Bowl
Iowa (8-4) Hawkeyes vs
LSU (9-3) Tigers
Tampa, FL
1:00pm
ESPN
It is amazing how my dislike of iowa can wane in the years we don’t play them (winning in wrestling helps too)- and I’m happy to see them in a New Year’s Day bowl game. LSU, is, of course, one of my lesser disliked Ehmahgerd HessEeeSee teams, but the B1G takes this one.
Stanford (11-2) Cardinal vs
Michigan State (12-1) Spartans
Pasadena, CA
5:00pm
ESPN
This is probably the bowl game that I am looking forward to the most. The teams are well matched and it could/should be an entertaining match-up, even with MSU's top linebacker (Max Bullough) being suspended for the game. Stanford is a strong team, and they racked up some impressive wins this year. I’m quite pleased that Michigan State beat tosu in the championship game, even if it did knock the B1G out of the National Championship game (although I really blame tosu for this). A good way to atone will be with a Rose Bowl win.
Tostitos Fiesta Bowl
UCF (11-1) Knights vs
Baylor (11-1) Bears
Glendale, AZ
8:30pm
ESPN
As much as I think the Stanford/MSU game will be the most fun to watch - this is the game where I probably have the most sincere bias... against. There is no question about which team I will be supporting - Baylor.
Thursday, January 2, 2014
Oklahoma (10-2) Sooners vs
Alabama (11-1) Crimson Tide
New Orleans, LA
8:30pm
ESPN
Spent most of the season rooting for whatever team was playing Alabama (right up to the last seconds of the regular season, to be precise), but now I don't have much reason to root against them, and Oklahoma certainly isn't going to sway me.
Friday, January 3, 2014
Oklahoma State (10-2) Cowboys vs
Missouri (11-2) Tigers
Arlington, TX
7:30pm
FOX
Hey, what happened to all those allegations against the Cowboys? Nothing? It’s amazing what can happen when you have administrators and backers that support the school and team. oh well - still (kinda) like Mike Gundy. This matchup of former conference-mates should be interesting. I don’t really have a bias against Mizzou, or none I can really remember, but the cowboys get my pick(ens).
Discover Orange Bowl
Clemson (10-2) Tigers vs
Ohio State (12-1) Buckeyes
Miami Gardens, FL
8:30pm
ESPN
Okay, so I was rooting for tOSU for 9/10 of the B1G championship game, honest. But in the end, I wasn't sad to see Urban and the nuts beaten, and knocked out of the championship game. But I'll be a good B1Gger for the Orange Bowl and root for OH - IO.
Saturday, January 4, 2014
Vanderbilt (8-4) Commodores vs
Houston (8-4) Cougars
Birmingham, AL
1:00pm
ESPN
When my mother was a teenager she babysat a little boy who (eventually) went to Vanderbilt. She always talked about how smart he was and what a great school it was. Annoyed the heck out of me. That said, the Commodores are a pretty solid underdog choice and no reason to not root for them.
Sunday, January 5, 2014
Arkansas State (7-5) Red Wolves vs
Ball State (10-2) Cardinals
Mobile, AL
9:00pm
ESPN
Don’t really have an opinion of Ark State - except that it took me a disproportionately long time to memorize their mascot. On the other side of the field, it’s been an excellent season for the Cardinals this year, and it would be nice to see them continue those winning ways.
Monday, January 6, 2014
Florida State (13-0) Seminoles vs
Auburn (12-1) Tigers
Pasadena, CA
8:30pm
ESPN
Amid the distractions FSU has climbed its way back into the upper strata of College Football. Their coach, Jimbo Fisher, has one of the more interesting names, but the fun stops there. Age old bias against the ‘Noles will keep me from rooting for them. Yes I'm aware that Auburn is in the SEC, and that the State of Alabama has won too many championships for anyone's good - but this isn't about states or conferences - and I just can't root for FSU.
