You've missed it, admit it. While our one year
This year, to get us on track we've (sold out to very tired meme cliche) employed our favorite Canadian to chime in on the match-ups.
So here are the games from December 21st - December 28th!
Let the fun begin!!
Saturday, December 21, 2013
Washington State (6-6) Cougars vs
Colorado State (7-6) Rams
Albuquerque, NM
2:00pm
ESPN
There are very few personalities in sports (or anywhere) that are more entertaining than Washington State's Coach Mike Leach - and I enjoy watching his teams on the field - whether winning or not. Jim McElwain, former Alabama (oh, you've heard of them?) OC, has gotten the Rams to a bowl game in his 2nd season as head coach. Really no contest here on the bias meter - Washington State.
Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl![]() |
Enough Said |
Fresno State (11-1) Bulldogs vs
USC (9-4) Trojans
Las Vegas, NV
3:30pm
ABC
Fresno State - Talk about a high powered offense, the bulldogs are averaging 45 points per game - now their opponents are scoring some points as well (avg 30 ppg), so it will be interesting to see how these two teams match up. With the departure of Lane Kiffin, and Ed Orgeron, it’s certainly been a roller coaster season for the Trojans. This will be Silas Redd’s last game as a college football player - as I’ve stated before, I’ve never wished Silas *ill* but I haven’t been rooting for him either. I guess this will change on the 21st.
Famous Idaho Potato Bowl
Buffalo (8-4) Bulls vs
San Diego State (7-5) Aztecs
Boise, ID
5:30pm
ESPN
Buffalo is in the midst of a great turn-around. It’s not that long ago that the Bulls were regulars on the *bottom of the barrel* lists. They should also be pretty well conditioned for the Idaho weather. The Aztecs, aka Brady Hoke's old haunt, however, as members of the Mountain West Conference, are well acquainted with the Smurf Turf. Interesting tidbit: San Diego State played in 4 overtime games this season (winning 3); don't tell O'bie. Our loyalties are leaning toward the North: Buffalo.
Tulane (7-5) Green Wave vs.
Louisiana-Lafayette (8-4) Ragin' Cajuns
New Orleans, LA
9:00pm
ESPN
Tulane plays their home games in the Superdome and LA-Lafayette are just 2 hours down I-10. So this is basically a home game for both teams. Tulane wins the "most interesting color combo" competition (it's real; I promise) sporting Olive Green and Sky Blue - but I think that the Sun Belt Champ Cajuns win on the mascot front with Cayenne; that's hot. Gotta go with the spice: LA-Lafayette.
Monday, December 23, 2013East Carolina (9-3) Pirates vs
Ohio (7-5) Bobcats
St. Petersburg, FL
2:00pm
ESPN
Purple vs Green; this is a particularly Wimbledony match up. It feels appropriate for ECU to be playing in the Beef 'o' Brady's Bowl, in St. Petersburg - seems like a probable Pirate venue. The Bobcats are having a bit of a *rebuilding year*. We're still a bit bitter about last year, and see ECU winning this one.
Boise State (8-4) Broncos vs
Oregon State (6-6) Beavers
Honolulu, HI
8:00pm
ESPN
I’m mildly a fan of (this) OSU. The Beavers sprinted out to a 6-1 record and proceeded to lose their next 5 games. Not very promising, but again, potential for winning is not a deciding factor in this list. I have spent many a winter night rooting for the Broncos, a loyalty that might shift slightly west next year, we'll see. Hmmm. Let's go with the Beavers turning around their season and getting the win.
Thursday, December 26, 2013
Pittsburgh (6-6) Panthers vs
Bowling Green (9-3) Falcons
Detroit, MI
6:00pm
ESPN
Pittsburgh (6-6) Panthers - Ah Pitt. Let’s see... do I have any bias for or against the panthers? Honestly, over the years my opinion of pitt has diluted so much that I didn’t really have a strong opinion about them. But, keeping with tradition, their fan base continues to exhibit great jacknuttery. The most interesting thing (to me) about Bowling Green is that there is absolutely no green in their uniforms; the 2nd most interesting thing, this month, is that they aren't pitt.
Utah State (8-4) Aggies vs
Northern Illinois (12-1) Huskies
San Diego, CA
9:30pm
ESPN
2 first year coaches taking over successful programs after their bosses
Marshall (9-3) Thundering Herd vs
Maryland (7-5) Terrapins
Annapolis, MD
2:30pm
ESPN
Maryland is joining the B1G next year - I could be rooting for them for this reason, but, on the other hand, many of their fans have been nasty little buggers on their (and leaching into our) message boards and blogs. One year left with no B1G *loyalty* pangs. Marshall is kinda the ultimate underdog, and I always root for the underdog.
Texas Bowl
Syracuse (6-6) Orange vs
Minnesota (8-4) Golden Gophers
Houston, TX
6:00pm
ESPN
A PSU win vs a PSU defeat. What to do - What to do? Logically speaking I should probably root for the orange to beat the Gophers to algorithmicly even the score - but there’s no logic in biased football picks! Minne has had an emotional season - they seem to be playing with more focus and drive in support of Coach Kill - and in some weird way I'm happy for their success - most of it anyway.
Fight Hunger Bowl
BYU (8-4) Cougars vs
Washington (8-4) Huskies
San Francisco, CA
9:30pm
ESPN
Washington has grabbed the brass ring on the cute coach carousel so I'll jump on the bandwagon a little early and pick them against BYU.
Rutgers (6-6) Scarlet Knights vs
Notre Dame (8-4) Fighting Irish
Bronx, NY
12:00pm
ESPN
Folks are taking note of the fact that the Pinstripe Bowl is the only bowl this season that features two programs with respectable graduation rates… culture. Rutgers is joining the B1G next season, and their message boards are lighting up about how they're going to out recruit PSU in the future; I just hope that their fans can remember that there's no crying in football. Notre Dame is Notre Dame, and I don't really see Rutgers as a reason to feel any differently.
Belk Bowl
Cincinnati (9-3) Bearcats vs
North Carolina (6-6) Tar Heels
Charlotte, NC
3:20pm
ESPN
Cincinnati Bearcats - so very little opinion about the Bearcats. They participated in one of the worst football games I’ve ever witnessed - but they’ve been there for some fun ones too. The tar heels played well this season and had some chances to log a much better record. But no chance here (at least not for my endorsement).
Miami (9-3) Hurricanes vs
Louisville (11-1) Cardinals
Orlando, FL
6:45pm
ESPN
Al Golden is one of my favorite people in sports and that sentiment has been able to quiet a (nearly) life-long disdain for the Canes. I'm wondering if a"non-crippled" Miami will be (even) less palatable. Louisville is home to a lot of nice people (seriously, what else is there?). So, albeit with some blech: Miami.
Michigan (7-5) Wolverines vs
Kansas State (7-5) Wildcats
Tempe, AZ
10:15pm
ESPN
It's been a topsy-turvy season for the Wolverines. They started out
