Strong are we with the Picks, but not that strong; Final Installment of 2015 - 2016 Biased Bowl Picks.

The final picks are in (or are they?)...

We were doing pretty well... up until the Texas Bowl... darn Texas.

But here are the picks through the last bowl game; bias abounds!

December 31st

Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl
Houston Cougars (12 - 1) vs Florida State Seminoles (10 - 2)

Atlanta, GA / Georgia Dome
12:00 pm ESPN

This has the potential to be an interesting game. Houston has had a solid season and I’m intrigued to see how they match up against FSU - could be a *peach* of a game. The Cougars have caused me some pain in the past few years, and, I’ll admit, my distain for the seminoles has mellowed a tiny bit - but there’s enough ancient bile built up for me to pick the - Cougars.

Capital One Orange Bowl
(Playoff Semifinal)
Clemson Tigers (13 - 0) vs Oklahoma Sooners (11 - 1)

Miami Gardens, FL / Sun Life Stadium
4:00 pm ESPN

I’m conflicted here. Notwithstanding their perfect season, the Tigers are not favored in this game, which does, technically (ie Penn State-ily), make them the *underdog* - and I definitely have some ancient bile simmering for the sooner(be anyone else)s - but (there’s always a but) I’m going for the “destruction of the perfect season

Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic
(Playoff Semifinal)
Alabama Crimson Tide (12 - 1) vs Michigan State Spartans (12 - 1)

Arlington, TX / AT&T Stadium
8:00 pm ESPN

This is a loyalty pick - I fully admit that I was rooting for Iowon’t in the B1G game - but that’s over now and the B1G must represent. The Spartans are getting absolutely no respect from the national media - completely ignoring their record (with their one loss to the officiating crew). And there’s also the whole “saban playing his old team” - pity LSU and the Dolphins aren’t also in the mix. So yeah, Spartans.

January 1st

Outback Bowl
Northwestern Wildcats (10 - 2) vs Tennessee Volunteers (8 - 4)

Tampa, FL / Raymond James Stadium
12:00 pm ESPN2

Northwestern has had a roller-coaster season - or as “roller-coastery” as a 10 & 2 season can be. They’ve looked quite capable against some good teams and, well, not so against, well, not so good teams - but they seem to find a way to win (most of the
time). I’ve developed a distaste for Fitz over the years, however, this is a B1G pick for me - Wildcats.

Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus BowlMichigan Wolverines (9 - 3) vs Florida Gators (10 - 3)
Orlando, FL / Citrus Bowl
1:00 pm - ABC

Blech. 2 teams with new coaches having *super* seasons. I get a little miserable just thinking about the all the sycophantic commentary these teams will garner in the next few years. Not to mention the pleated khakis. Gators.

Battlefrog Fiesta Bowl

Notre Dame Fighting Irish (10 - 2) vs Ohio State Buckeyes (11 - 1)
Glendale, AZ / University of Phoenix Stadium
1:00 pm - ESPN

Battlefrog? What a shame TCU isn’t in this game. But, oh how I adore these games where I’m truly rooting for the game suspending act of nature. It takes a lot for me to choose the Urbanites, but then those Domers have always be over-achievers. Buck(nut)s.

Rose Bowl Game presented by Northwestern Mutual
Iowa Hawkeyes (12 - 1) vs Stanford Cardinal (11 - 2)
Pasadena, CA / Rose Bowl
4:30 pm - ESPN

So I’m guessing that it’s taken me just about 6 years to stop *blaming Iowa* - or at least to stop blaming them for all the strife in the world. Although I’ll admit I was hoping they’d drop a game during the regular season, I was definitely rooting for them in the title game, and I’ll continue rooting for them in the Rose Bowl. Would be a B1G validation. Hawkeyes.

Allstate Sugar Bowl

Ole Miss Rebels (9 - 3) vs Oklahoma State Cowboys (10 - 2)
New Orleans, LA / Mercedes Benz Superdome
8:30 pm - ESPN

I’ve been rooting for Ok State all season and I see no compelling reason to stop now. After all, their coach is a man. Pokes.

January 2nd

Taxslayer Bowl
Penn State Nittany Lions (7 - 5) vs Georgia Bulldogs (9 - 3)

Jacksonville, FL / Everbank Field
12:00 pm - ESPN

This is an obvious choice, of course. PSU hasn’t played against georgia since we had a #14 quarterback and there was a Garrity on the team... wait a minute. PENN STATE.NITTANY LIONS!!!

AutoZone Liberty Bowl
Kansas State Wildcats (6 - 6) vs Arkansas Razorbacks (7 - 5)

Memphis, TN / Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium
3:20 pm - ESPN

With no real bias for or against either programs, this is a match-up that boils down to the coaches - and Bert makes it a super easy pick. Wildcats.

Valero Alamo Bowl
TCU Horned Frogs (10 - 2) vs Oregon Ducks (9 - 3)

San Antonio, TX / Alamodome
6:45 pm - ESPN

Not Oregon’s best season ever (remember when we used to regard a 3 loss season as a disaster? Ah, those were the days.), but on the (not as) bright side it resulted in a reduced assault on our retinae when watching CFL. While I did spend a few games rooting against the Frogs this year, they’re still one of my favorites. and besides, Tailgate Maven really dislikes Oregon. Horned Frogs.

Motel 6 Cactus Bowl
West Virginia Mountaineers (7 - 5) vs Arizona State Sun Devils (6 - 6)

Phoenix, AZ / Chase Field
10:15 pm - ESPN

Don’t hate me but I find Holgorsen kinda hilarious - in an entertaining way - even if he is, obviously, Norwegian (maybe Danish). My age-old bias against WVU seems to be dissipating - it’s not gone, mind you, it’s just not strong enough to sway me in this match-up or against Todd Graham. Mountaineers.

The purpose of American football is to move the ball towards the opposition's end zone and ultimately into their end zone (a touchdown).
